Emerging country music duo, BoomTown Saints, teams up with Sam Grow to tackle the growth that comes with experiencing a first heartbreak in their new single, “Heart Breaks You.” The stirring track was penned by hit songwriters Connie Harrington, Houston Phillips, and Josh Dunne, produced by Colt Ford and Noah Gordon and premieres today, exclusively with Country Now.
A string of harmonies illuminates the tune as the gritty sounds of the duo, made up of Chris Ramos and Ben Chism, blend seamlessly with the richness of the Maryland native’s vocals. Together, they emphasize an important message that can be learned from the innocence of young love.
Within the opening verse, the tantalizing lyrics paint the picture of a 17-year-old football captain who holds a supreme spot in the high school rankings, allowing him to get his “pick of a homecoming queen.” However, after capturing the girl’s heart, he leaves her behind without a second thought and moves on “to the next best thing.” It may seem like “all just fun and games now,” but as the group of artists relay in the chorus, the character eventually learns a hard lesson after being faced his own batch of heartache, causing him to grow out of his player ways.
“‘Til a heart breaks YOU/ And you’re ‘can’t sleep’ crazy/ It hurts so bad drinkin’ don’t even phase ya/ Can’t one night stand it, can’t don’t give a damn it/ It’s just something that you gotta go through/ ‘Cause you can’t love somebody…I mean really love somebody/ Like somebody really needs you to/ ‘Til a heart breaks YOU,” they sing as the powerful melody intensifies with scorching guitar riffs and thundering rhythms.
Although “Heart Breaks You” puts a specific narrative centered around teen years on display, the message of earning personal growth as a result of life’s challenges can ring true at any age.
BoomTown Saints explained that they first fell in love with the song when they heard it four years ago and were overjoyed to finally get the chance to bring it to life with Grow’s help.
“When the opportunity arose to record it with an artist as talented as Sam Grow, both Ben and I were flattered and excited,” said Ramos.
Chism emphasized the sentiment of the storyline as he added, “We have always felt that ‘Heart Breaks You’ captures the essence of a moment in life that many people face that helps a boy become a man, and that is something that is extremely difficult to accomplish. This song was masterfully penned by Connie Harrington, Josh Dunne, and Houston Phillips and spoke to us in a way that few other songs have.”
Grow expressed the same enthusiasm in working with the duo on this track, especially because of the fact that he has found his own personal connection to the message being portrayed to listeners.
“From the moment I heard this song I knew it was special,” the Maryland-born, Kansas-raised singer shared. “Not only have I lived it, but now being a dad to my daughters it makes you even more conscious of your decisions in young dating. To get the chance to team up with Boomtown Saints with Noah Gordon at the helm of production, I was so thankful for the opportunity. I hope everyone loves this song as much as I do.”
BoomTown Saints continues to make waves within the industry and gain fans nationwide with anthems like “All Trucks Go To Heaven,” and “Blacktop Don’t.” The best friends turned bandmates are gearing up for their next performance in Bon Aqua, TN on Sept. 7.
